My debut graphic novel, Pinocchio, Vampire Slayer, was released in October 2009 by SLG Publishing. The book is illustrated by Dustin Higgins.

The book has been praised by Publishers Weekly, Comic Book Resources, USA Today and lots of other outlets. It was named one of “10 Great Graphic Novels for Teens” by the American Library Association.

You can buy it at Amazon, through SLG or on iTunes through Comixology.

A free preview of the book is available right here.

A 10-page preview is available on the SLG Publishing Web site.

The sequel sees Pinocchio teaming up with the puppet members of the Great Puppet Theater in the continuing battle against the undead.

The third and final book in the PVS trilogy will come out in the summer of 2012.

Coming soon from SLG Publishing is Snow White: Through a Glass, Darkly, which is Van’s spin on another classic fairy tale with artist Robin Holstein.

What if it wasn’t the stepmother that was evil, but instead it was the mirror?

With that simple premise, the comic expands into an exploration of the dual lives of Snow White and her stepmother, Astrid, showing how each comes under the sway of the powerful, nefarious mirror.

Stay tuned for publishing details!

My first illustrated work, Nebraska #1, was self-published in 2009. It can be viewed online right here. Nebraska #2 is online right here. These are true stories of growing up in Lewellen, Neb., population 300.

Both issues are currently out of print.

I wrote and illustrated a two-page story to Jabberwacky, the 2010 Free Comic Book Day anthology from Wide Awake Press. My contribution, Coming of Age, can be seen right here.

I’m keeping busy developing other comics projects. Stay tuned for updates.

Wow, this is awesome. Who would think Pinocchio could look like such a bad ass. Keep it up, the only thing I would worry about is the background story. If it is big enough, then you are fine. If it is to small, then people might grow tired of seeing him simply slaying monsters with his nose.

Although there are many ways for him to do that… like telling enough lies to frickin’ harpoon some bady in the chest. haha.

  4. Although the art is very stylized, it works well in grayscale. Good job.

Excellent stuff. The ‘boy of wood’ was due for a dark makeover. Great to see it being done with such style and imagination. Lovely work.
