Adios, Comic Foundry

This week, the latest and, sadly, last issue of Comic Foundry magazine arrived in the mail.
Maybe a year and a half ago I’d e-mailed editor Tim Leong to see about freelancing (I was looking for more gigs after leaving my newspaper comics column), and he shot back a note right away to pitch some ideas.
Between [...]

NBA Players Are Huge Nerds Too

I missed them in the crowd at New York Comic Con, but apparently Ryan Anderson and Brook Lopez of the New Jersey Nets attended.
They’ve now filed a video report on the NBA Web site, and it includes Lopez geeking out as he meets Jim Lee, who graciously does a big Wolverine sketch for Lopez.
Anderson doesn’t [...]

My Old Newspaper Smacks Rick Santorum

Former Pennsylvania Rep. Senator Rick Santorum is taking a tour of colleges around the country, enlightening folks on Islam.
Because, you know, who is more knowledgeable about Islam than Rick Santorum?
His latest stop was the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, my alma mater, where Santorum made himself look pretty darn foolish, mistaking “Islamic” and “Arabic” in his talk. [...]

Did Marvel Steal My ‘Wolverine’ Idea? (No.)

My pal Doom Deluise at the Doomkopf blog sent me a note last night saying, “Did you ever send that Wolverine story idea in to Marvel? If so, it looks like they stole your idea.”
From Marvel’s May solicitations for Wolverine #73:
“A DAY IN THE LIFE” PART 1
Superstar WOLVERINE artist ADAM KUBERT returns, joined by superstar [...]

GOP Criticizes Obama, Nation Rolls Eyes

Let me get this right, the GOP senators who have refused to take an engaged role in crafting the stimulus package, who have decided to vote straight down the party line, who haven’t budged from their “cutting taxes solves everything” mindset (which is ridiculed by economists and which the American people firmly rejected in recent [...]

Now Reading: ‘Doubt’

I was browsing in Barnes & Noble the other night, looking to pick up a quick read for the flight to New York (for Comic Con), and I spotted the script to the play “Doubt,” which inspired the new movie.
I haven’t seen the film version, though, being a fan of Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy [...]

Back from New York Comic Con (NYCC)

My New York City virginity has ended and … well, let’s just call quits on that sentence before it gains steam.
Amy and I flew up to New York last weekend for the big convention, but even moreso to see our good friends Richard and Brian. It was my first visit to the big city, so [...]

My Super Bowl Highlight

I watched the Super Bowl last night with some friends, and while it was a back-and-forth game at the end with a handful of amazing plays, for the most part it was terribly played, with constant penalties and miscues bogging down the action.
The coolest aspect on a nerdy level, no question, was Steelers linebacker LaMarr [...]
