Had a great trip to Charlotte for Heroes Con 2008, and I’ll try to post more about it when I get a chance.
First, thanks to the crew from Heroes Aren’t Hard to Find, who put together one heck of a convention. Great guest list, great atmosphere, great staff. Just a great experience top to bottom.
I posted lots and lots about it for ComicMix, which you can read here and here. The Journalista blog actually used one of my notes for its top quote, as DC editor Dan DiDio essentially said all the stories had already been told for DC’s characters, so it’s just a matter of rehashing the same stuff. And you wonder why people were saying he’d get fired…
Another cool thing from Heroes Con was that I went not just as a journalist, but also as a creator. An artist friend, Dusty Higgins, and I are finishing up a new digest-sized graphic novel of about 115 pages that has the awesome title of Pinnochio: Vampire Slayer.
Dusty put together a sweet little mini comic of the opening pages, and it got a huge response. Ross Richie, Todd Dezago, Rob Venditti, Joe Keatinge and quite a few others got a big laugh out of the book (we are, however, still looking for a publisher). I’ll be posting those opening pages on Monday, but for now here’s a taste of the awesomeness to come…
