IGN has a thorough set report from Frank Miller’s Will Eisner’s The Spirit (yes, that’s what I’m calling it). I didn’t even know they had a cast, much less filming underway. Here’s hoping that Sam Jackson is far more Unbreakable than Snakes on a Plane as the villain, The Octopus.
Speaking of comics movies, Chud.com has a big piece of news regarding Zack Snyder’s Watchmen. The director told the site that the Black Freighter and the diary of the original Nite Owl could be spun off into accompanying DVDs. They also have a tidbit (plus snark) on the upcoming Dark Knight movie.
Tying into the Simpsons episode from a couple weeks back is this report (Dallas Morning News) about the success of specialty comics retailers in Dallas. The owner of one store says he can compete with Borders and Barnes & Noble because, while those stores stock a lot of comics, they still don’t know how to sell them. There’s also a brief mention of a Kevin O’Neill signing and the mistaken claim that Marvel and DC reprint “virtually all their stories” in trade paperbacks. And here’s another story about comics retailing (The Oklahoman) that mentions the Android’s Dungeon. And here’s another (Guardian UK) that mentions the Comic Book Guy. Great minds think alike and all that…
Here’s a good breakdown (The Guardian UK) of the relationship between movies and graphic novels.
A kid got suspended from school because he had a copy of the manga book Death Note, and inside that a list of names of classmates. The gist of Death Note is that when a name is written in a notebook, that person dies.
